Detailed Description |
| Business Impact: |
Microsoft DirectX is a core component of Microsoft Windows 2000, XP, and Server 2003 and is enabled by default. Successful exploitation of this issue would provide an attacker with complete control over the endpoint target. The use of malicious media files like images and movies has been prevalent in the past years and the use of malicious movies, in particular, substantially increased near the end of 2008. This vulnerability was being actively exploited which led to its public disclosure by Microsoft. Currently, specially-crafted QuickTime videos are being hosted on malicious websites, but these malicious files may also arrive through other vectors such as spam. |
