| Technical Description: |
Trend Micro Server Protect binds to an RPC interface intended to be used for administration of the scanning agent. Authentication is not enforced on this interface allowing remote attackers to successfully bind to the interface and make subsequent RPC requests.
Many of the valid RPC request accepted on this interface chain directly to Windows API calls that can easily lead to complete compromise of the target system. This includes, but is not limited to creating and overwriting arbitrary files, deleting files, and complete administrative control over the scanning agent. |
| Remediation: |
A patch released in May 2008 somewhat mitigated access to this vulnerability. However, the vulnerability was still resident and easily accessible. A patch released in May 2009 fully fixed it. |
