Red Hat Linux tcpdump fails to drop permissions

Description:
The tcpdump utility as packaged in Red Hat Linux could allow an attacker to obtain root privileges, caused by a compilation error. Unless the '-U' flag is enabled, tcpdump fails to drop permissions to the pcap user and the utility runs as root.

Red Hat 7.3: 3.6.3-17.7.3.3 or later
Red Hat 8.0: 3.6.3-17.8.0.3 or later
Red Hat 9: 3.7.2-1.9.1 or later

Upgrade to the latest tcpdump package, as listed below. Refer to RHSA-2003:151-098 for more information. See References.
