Description:

Oracle9i Application Server is vulnerable to a denial of service attack, caused by a format string vulnerability in the ap_log_error() function in the mod_dav module, which is accessible using the DAV_PUBLIC directory. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending a specially-crafted URL request to the DAV_PUBLIC directory to cause denial of service against the affected server or execute arbitrary commands on the server.

Note: This vulnerability may also affect other platforms that include a mod_dav module that permits user-supplied strings to be passed to the ap_log_error() function.

  • Oracle, Application Server 9.0.2

Remedy:

Upgrade to the latest version of Oracle9i Application Server (9.0.3 or later), or apply the workaround for this vulnerability, as listed in Oracle Security Alert #52. See References.
