Description:

log2mail is vulnerable to a static buffer overflow. By sending a request that would cause a malicious log entry to be recorded, a remote or local attacker could overflow a buffer and execute arbitrary code on the system with root privileges, once log2mail scans the malicious log entry and attempts to send an email to the administrator.

Platforms Affected:

  • Debian, Debian Linux 3.0
  • Michael Krax, log2mail prior to 0.2.5.1

Remedy:

For Debian GNU/Linux 3.0 (woody):
Upgrade to the latest log2mail package (0.2.5.1 or later), as listed in DSA-186-1. See References.

For other distributions:
Contact your vendor for upgrade or patch information.
