The SNMP "party" security framework was proposed in 1992 as a prelude to SNMPv2. While this proposal was never adopted "as is", it became the foundation for SNMPv2 security mechanisms.

RFC1352 -Defines a new security "wrapper" for SNMP, replacing the community-string wrapper in SNMPv1.
