 FAQ
Oh my gosh, I'm being HACKED!!!
How do I report the hacker to my ISP?
I'm seeing lots of attacks, is this normal?
Summary

Somebody has scanned the system looking for the version of the IDENT/AUTH service. This likely indicates general scanning.

Details

The IDENT service is often used in IRC and other places as an additional authentication mechanism. It is also frequently attacked, either to scan the system or break into it.

Some versions of IDENT (especially open-source ones that ship with Linux) will return their "version" when asked. This can be used by the hacker to fingerprint your system.
