BIOS

advICE :Exploits :Defaults :Password : BIOS
Virtually all BIOS manufacturers include backdoor passwords in the BIOS because people frequently lose their passwords. Since the password is frequently held in CMOS RAM, it can be cleared by clearing the CMOS (setting jumpers and/or removing the battery).

    • Toshiba notebook BIOS backdoor-Some Toshiba notebooks have a backdoor that works differently. The BIOS will allow you to bypass the password if their is a disk in the driver where the first 5 bytes of the 2nd sector (the 1st sector contains the book section) are set to 4B 45 59 00 00" (hex). You need to use a disk editor to create your key disk. Boot the target system with the disk in the driver and press the reset button, When it asks for the Password:, press <enter>, at which point it will check the disk then ask if you want to set the password again to a new value. type 'Y' and you are in!
