IRC (Internet Relay Chat) is one of the more popular programs on the Internet. It suffers the following type of exploits: - floods
- This technique causes the client to disconnect by forcing too much traffic. For example, if someone pings you a lot, your responses will cause you to be disconnected from the server.
- bots
- A 'bot' is an automated agent that acts like an IRC client. They can be used for good purposes as well as for attacking people.
- cloner
- A specific type of bot that simply clones somebody elses traffic; for example, when flooding, a clone bot can help drive traffic at the victim, forcing them off.
- nukes
- Crashes somebody's machine.
