SOCKS

advICE :Countermeasures :VPN : SOCKS
Socks is not a traditional VPN protocol. It is most frequently used in a reverse fashion: allowing internal computers access to the external Internet through a firewall. However, it contains authentication and encryption features similar to VPN protocols, and can equally be used to allow external access to the internal network.

SOCKS is a "unidirectional" protocol, meaning that it allows clients to access servers, but does not allow anybody to access the client.
